On the 4/9/07 House of Bishops Memo
Via Media USA has learned of the release of a memo dated April 9, 2007,
to The Episcopal Church's House of Bishops from that house's Task Force
on Property. Whether or not this document was meant to be set forth for
all to see, it now is, and it should not be ignored. We thought it best
to link to it directly through this website, and encourage all
Episcopalians, particularly those in our alliance groups and dioceses, to
read it carefully. The memo may be found at:
http://www.episcopalcafe.com/daily/episcopal_church/report_of_the_house_of_bishops.php#more
The memo shows the diligence with which The Episcopal Church is
addressing the serious threat to its property and polity posed by such
organizations as the Anglican Communion Network, CANA, the AMiA, CAPA, et
al. It also makes plain what appears to us and to many Episcopalians as a
calculated, and perhaps devious, plan to strip assets and legitimacy from
The Episcopal Church.
The plan, as the memo points out, threatens not merely the church's
property but also its integrity. We believe that Episcopalians should do
that they can to see that this plan is frustrated at every turn, and help
the church in all places turn itself more directly to Christ's mission in
the world.
